Additonal Dermatology Information
JuvedermŽ & PerlaneŽRestylane® and Perlane® are two types of filler injections that are both made of hyaluronic acid. In the human body, natural hyaluronic acid provides volume and fullness to the skin. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane and Perlane has been modified slightly to last longer than the body’s hyaluronic acid.
Restylane® and Perlane® treat severe facial wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth), by filling and smoothing the skin. Water’s Edge Dermatology is equipped to successfully provide patients with these filler options.
About the Restylane® Family of Products
The Restylane® family of products, which includes Perlane®, improves your skin’s hydration and volume. The result is a smoother appearance and a reduction in wrinkles and fine lines. Restylane can be injected into your lips, chin, and cheeks. Perlane® is not approved for lip injections.
After the initial round of injections takes place, one treatment’s effects will last anywhere from six to twelve months.
A normal visit should take no longer than 20 minutes, and you should see immediate results. Your facial expression is not affected by filler injections.
Your Water’s Edge Dermatology practitioner will inject Restylane® or Perlane® into your skin using an ultra fine needle. The chemical properties of these fillers allow them to naturally attract and bind water molecules, which is what helps your skin maintain volume.
There is no animal-based protein in either Restylane® or Perlane®, so a skin test or allergy test prior to treatment is not necessary.
Perlane® is used for deeper facial wrinkles because the average size of the particles is larger, and the injection goes deeper. Typically, one treatment will last for about six months.
Are Restylane® and Perlane® Injections Safe?
It’s very important that a licensed, experienced medical professional administers the treatment. It takes a deep understanding of the science behind the muscles, bones, and fat to properly inject a patient’s face with anything, let alone a product that can literally help defy gravity.
There are potential side effects with any filler procedure, but most are mild. They include swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness at the injection site. These symptoms generally disappear within seven days.
If you have a bleeding disorder, severe allergies, or are nursing, you should not use these products.
To determine which filler treatment is right for you, schedule a consultation with your Water’s Edge Dermatology practitioner.
After your treatment:
· use cold compresses to reduce swelling.
· avoid touching the area for six hours.
· stay out of the sun until you can see no more redness or swelling.
Your Water’s Edge Dermatology practitioner will guide you on other things to do and avoid after your treatment, as well as measures to take prior to your visit.
