Dysport®: Wrinkle-Reducing Injections

You can look years younger after just one treatment of Dysport® wrinkle-reducing injections. Administered by a Water’s Edge Dermatology practitioner, Dysport erases the moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) that gradually appear as we age. These lines tend to make you look stressed or angry.

By temporarily minimizing the muscle movements underneath the skin, Dysport can take years off your appearance by creating a naturally relaxed and refreshed look. For a more dramatic effect, you can combine Dysport with one of our cosmetic dermal fillers, such as Radiesse®.

What is Dysport?

As an FDA-approved prescription medication, Dysport is used to dramatically reduce the appearance of forehead wrinkles and frown lines between the eyebrows. The purified medication solution is injected into a specific area to relax the muscles, allowing the skin to smooth and wrinkles and lines to fade.

How does Dysport work?

Wrinkles on your face are caused when facial muscles contract under your skin when you express emotions. That’s why they are often called frown lines. Through the years, those frown lines start to linger longer and can become more pronounced.

Dysport works by reducing the contractions of the muscles that cause those persistent frown lines. Untreated muscles still work normally, so you can continue to express feelings naturally. Only the lines disappear, not your expressions.

Dysport seems to diffuse a bit more, so it may be used to treat broader areas of wrinkling such as the forehead. Because Dysport dosage is different from Botox, it works quicker and lasts longer than Botox for some people.

What can I expect from treatment?

Your Water’s Edge Dermatology practitioner will make a series of injections into the muscles in your forehead between your eyebrows. This only takes about 10-20 minutes and requires no downtime, so you can get on with your day. If necessary, your dermatologist can apply a topical anesthetic or ice to numb the area.
