Laser Skin Resurfacing

Benefits of laser skin resurfacingIf you have spent years in the sun, especially without adequate sun protection, then you know what it can do to your skin. Fractional laser skin resurfacing can reduce or eliminate wrinkles, skin discoloration, sun spots, and skin laxity. Also, if you have any scars from acne, surgery, or other skin injuries, then you may be a candidate for this procedure.

Fractional laser skin therapy is the ideal approach for skin rejuvenation. In just one visit to a Water’s Edge Dermatology office, you can restore your skin’s youthful appearance. While the aging process cannot be stopped, with proper care you can maintain your skin’s rejuvenated appearance for many years.

Benefits of laser skin resurfacing:

  • Reverse the appearance of aged and sun-damaged skin
  • Improve skin texture, elasticity, and firmness
  • Smooth wrinkles and lines
  • Reduce the appearance of acne and other scars
  • Renew your skin

Water’s Edge Dermatology offers two types of fractional laser therapy: ablative and non-ablative.

Ablative laser skin resurfacing
, also known as fractional CO2 laser therapy or DOT therapy, creates thousands of microscopic perforations (dots) in the skin while leaving the areas around each dot intact. These microscopic dots stimulate collagen growth and tighten the underlying skin.

Once the skin exfoliates and heals, usually within 5 to 10 days, you skin will be tighter and smoother, your complexion brighter, and imperfections not as noticeable.

Unlike traditional CO2 lasers, which can only treat the face, DOT therapy can also be used on the neck, chest, and hands. However, it cannot be used on all skin tones. Learn more about DOT therapy/ablative laser skin resurfacing.

Non-ablative fractional laser skin resurfacing
uses microfractional laser technology and energy microbeams to precisely target the
Non-ablative fractional laser skin resurfacing affected areas of skin. The body’s natural healing process stimulates collagen growth to replace the damaged tissue with healthy, new tissue, creating smoother, younger-looking skin. It requires little to no downtime because there is no removal of the outer layers of skin. It can also be used on ALL skin colors and types.

In addition to targeting fine lines, wrinkles, acne, scars, sun-damaged skin, and discoloration such as melasma, our non-ablative laser can be used on other parts of the body to treat stretch marks and spider veins, as well as remove unwanted body hair.

Non-ablative laser skin resurfacing is less invasive than DOT therapy and requires less recovery time. It’s ideal for the beginning stages of facial rejuvenation or darker skin tones and an excellent maintenance treatment to DOT therapy. Learn more about non-ablative laser skin resurfacing.

The cosmetic providers at Water’s Edge will examine your skin to determine if you are a candidate for fractional laser skin resurfacing and if so, which laser we recommend. Your provider will thoroughly explain your options and what results you can expect so you can decide if laser resurfacing is right for you.
