About Dr. Stefan Weiss
A native of Florida, Dr. Weiss was raised in Hollywood. He went on to graduate Yale University cum laude and then the Duke University School of Medicine.
During medical school, Dr. Weiss participated in the Clinical Research Training Program at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) where he completed a fellowship in Bioethics and earned his Masters Degree in Clinical Research (MHSc). As part of the Dermatology Branch of the National Cancer Institute, Dr. Weiss conducted one of the first studies to investigate the impact of psoriasis on quality of life.
Dr. Weiss was a resident in Dermatology at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He was actively involved in the Stanford clinical research unit, and served as a sub-investigator on several clinical trials that evaluated novel therapies for the treatment of psoriasis. His efforts resulted in numerous publications and presentations at major medical meetings. In his second year of residency, Dr. Weiss received the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery resident-research award.
Prior to opening the Weiss Skin Institute and joining Water’s Edge Dermatology, Dr. Weiss was Senior Medical Director at Connetics Corporation, a biotechnology company in Palo Alto, Calif., in the heart of Silicon Valley. There, Dr. Weiss was the medical leader of the core teams that successfully completed the clinical studies required to file three New Drug Applications with the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The approval of these three therapies has dramatically improved the lives of hundreds of thousands of patients suffering from psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and seborrheic dermatitis.
A board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Weiss is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a Diplomate of both the American Board of Dermatology and the National Board of Medical Examiners. He is among the leadership of the Society of Investigative Dermatology and serves as co-director of the Pharmacology of Skin Course. He is also a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the American Society for Mohs Surgery, the Skin Cancer Foundation and the National Psoriasis Foundation. He holds an adjunct appointment on the faculty of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and is on the staff of the West Boca Medical Center.
In addition to his activities in clinical medicine and research, Dr. Weiss maintains an active lifestyle. He enjoys sailing, kayaking, skiing, and diving. He is an avid supporter of the arts and participates in the young professional societies of the Boca Art Museum and the Kravis Center.
