Our History & Care Philosophy

The story of Water’s Edge Dermatology begins in July of 1998 when a young dermatologist, Dr. Ted Schiff, opens his own medical practice in the small south-central Florida community of Okeechobee after years of distinguished study and training.

“It was a two-person office with no computers; everything was done manually. I even helped answer the phones,” said Dr. Schiff. “Good training, hard work, attention to detail and, above all else, dedication to great patient care is what allowed us to slowly, but steadily, build a successful practice.”

The determination to provide people with the highest standard of quality skin care and dermatology services at a local dermatology practice, coupled with creating the best possible patient experience, did not go unnoticed.

Positive word-of-mouth spread about Dr. Schiff and Water’s Edge Dermatology, and has continued to grow in response ever since. As Dr. Schiff continued to grow the practice over the years, it was never just for the sake of getting bigger; it was to better meet a broader range of skin care needs in more communities.

Water’s Edge Dermatology hasn’t only grown in size – from that two-person office in Okeechobee to the hundreds of great people who now work for Water’s Edge – but it’s also grown in scope – from general dermatology services only to now offering general dermatology, surgical dermatology, pediatric dermatology, cosmetic dermatology, skin cancer treatment, plastic surgery and vein health services.

However, one thing that hasn’t changed since 1998 (and never will) is the passion and commitment to treating every patient that walks through the doors as family. Those are the Water’s Edge Dermatology Values. They always have and always will inform and guide the evolution of this practice.
