Water’s Edge Dermatology offers two types of fractional laser therapy: ablative and non-ablative. Ablative laser skin resurfacing, also known as fractional CO₂ laser therapy or DOT therapy, creates thousands of microscopic perforations (dots) in the skin while leaving the areas around each dot intact. These microscopic dots stimulate collagen growth and tighten the underlying skin. Once the skin exfoliates and heals, usually within 5 to 10 days, you skin will be tighter and smoother, your complexion brighter and imperfections not as noticeable. Unlike traditional CO₂ lasers, which can only treat the face, DOT therapy can also be used on the neck, chest and hands. However, it cannot be used on all skin tones. Non-ablative fractional laser skin resurfacing uses microfractional laser technology and energy microbeams to precisely target the affected areas of skin. The body’s natural healing process stimulates collagen growth to replace the damaged tissue with healthy, new tissue, creating smoother, younger-looking skin. It requires little to no downtime because there is no removal of the outer layers of skin. It can also be used on ALL skin colors and types.
