Kybella® Injectable Treatment
If you have longed to get rid of your double chin but didn’t want to have surgery, Kybella® may be the solution you’re looking for. Double chin (medically known as submental fullness) may be caused by aging, genetics, or weight gain, although you don’t have to be overweight to have a double chin. For many people, submental fullness is often resistant to diet and exercise alone.
At Water’s Edge Dermatology, our practitioners use Kybella to destroy the fat cells under your chin and improve your facial profile, making you look years younger and slimmer.
What is Kybella and how does it work?
Kybella is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that targets submental fullness, or double chin. The active ingredient in Kybella, deoxycholic acid, is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring molecule that breaks down fat in the body. Fat cells are destroyed by Kybella, and the cells are no longer able to store or accumulate fat.
What can I expect from treatment?
Depending on the amount of fat under your chin and your treatment goals, you may receive up to six treatments, spaced at least one month apart. During each treatment session, your Water’s Edge Dermatology practitioner will administer multiple injections directly under the chin to destroy the fat cells. Each session takes 15-20 minutes. After each treatment session, you may experience some swelling, bruising, or numbness under your chin.
When will I see results and for how long will they last?
Many patients experience visible results in two to four treatments, although you may receive a maximum of six treatments. Because the fat cells are destroyed, submental fullness will not return and you should not need any other treatments.
