What is Kybella and how does it work?

Kybella is the only FDA-approved injectable that targets a double chin. The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, which is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring molecule that breaks down fat in the body. Fat cells are destroyed by Kybella, and the cells are no longer able to store or accumulate fat.

What can I expect from Kybella treatment?

Depending on the amount of fat under your chin and your treatment goals, you may receive up to six treatments, with the sessions being spaced at least one month apart. Each session lasts 15-20 minutes. During each session, your Water’s Edge Dermatology provider administers injections directly under the chin to destroy the fat cells. Afterward, you may experience some swelling, bruising or numbness under your chin.

When will I see results and how long will they last?

Many patients start seeing results in two to four treatments. Because the fat cells are destroyed, your double chin will not return and you should not need any other treatments once completed.
